Garbage disposals are an essential part of our kitchens, and having yours jammed can take a lot of utility away from your kitchen's function. Fixing a stuck garbage disposal can be a quick task when you follow these easy steps.

Steps to Unjam a Garbage Disposal

  1. Be sure to always have the power to the garbage disposal off before starting any work.

  2. Use the garbage disposal wrench and insert it into the flywheel turning hole at the bottom of the unit.

  3. Turn the wrench clockwise to free the stuck impeller or flywheel. You could use a wooden object like a spoon handle to reach into the disposal through the drain opening and dislodge the stuck impeller plate.

  4. Once the impeller or flywheel is turning freely, your garbage disposal should be functioning as normal.
