Pilot lights are essential for gas stoves, water heaters, and more to function. This continuously burning flame provides a starting source to ignite the main gas burners for other parts of these appliances. If you find that any of your gas appliances aren't functioning, one of the first things to check is the pilot light. If you discover that your pilot light is not lit on your stove, follow these simple steps to get it going again.

How to Light a Pilot Light

  1. Turn the knob to “Pilot,” and let gas flow to the pilot.

  2. Light a lighter or match, then push in the reset button.

  3. Hold your flame to the pilot light's opening. Keep the reset switch depressed until the pilot light is burning steadily.

And just like that, your pilot light should be lit and your stove functional again!
